View Full Version : Rejected again for balance

I took the advice to crop the left side and the bottom, which in my eyes looks more balanced, but it was still rejected for balance. I've seen many photos on RP with a worse balance problem than mine.:-x What do you all think?
Thanks, RH

I'd rather not help someone with a bad attitude tonight.

The balance is off. I don't care for the dead space on the bottom. Perhaps you should place the train at the bottom of the photo, and leave some space up top, to show off more of the sky?
Also, do you have another frame? I don't care for the large pole growing out of the engine.

Thanks for the the help and no I don't have another frame to offer. I'll just trash this one and go back next Saturday and try to get a better shot.

I dont think you could save this one, it will get a high sun reject at some point too

No it won't.
My first reaction was the dimensions seemed too small, but the width checks okay. Personally, I wouldn't go any less than 800 x 600...

Chase is almost correct. The problem isn't really the pole growing out of the engine, it's the fact that the pole is cut off. Looking at the other poles in the shot, it seems there's only a tiny part of the pole cut out of the frame. Why?
The bottom needs to be trimmed as well. This is better than your previous shot (http://forums.railpictures.net/showthread.php?t=11174) but there's still took much boring gray ballast. Crop some off the bottom and if you have more sky, add it.
Lastly, another thing to look at is the conveyor for the industry at right. Instead of cutting it off, why not include it in the shot to make it more than a simple 3/4 wedgie.
