I'm currently using the Canon 70-200mm f4 EF-L lens. I'm looking at the 35-350mm EF-L lens because of the versatility of this lens. But for around the same money I can afford the 70-200mm f2.8. I'd like opinions of the 35-350mm L vs the 70-200 f2.8. I'm leaning towards the 35-350 so I need y'alls help. Am I foolish to go with the 35-350 over the 70-200 f2.8 ? Thanks for any and all help. Chris,
I think you'll be much happier with the results you get from the 70-200. The 35-350 is just too much of a spread for crisp optics. Your 75-300 will get you close to 350mm if you need more reach than the 70-200 will give, and you can save your pennies for a 100-400mm.
Reason number 2? The 70-200 f2.8 is much faster glass and will give you more opportunities in lower light situations.

Chris, Jonathan is right on the mark in discussing the
limitations of the 35-350mm and the advantage
of the 70-200mm f2.8 lens.
I have the latter, and it is one of my two favorite
railfanning lenses.
By the way, if you read the reviews of the Canon zooms on
fredmiranda.com, you'll gain better insight into the strengths
and weaknesses of the individual Canon lenses.

To get extra reach with your 70-200, add a 1.4x extender...I'm thinking of getting one because I miss the reach I had with my old 75-300.
