I am looking at railfanning on CSX on New Year's Day and I was wondering how much less traffic I can expect from a 60 - 100 Trains per Day line.

As far as I know CSX is going to be operating normal, but if you want to know for sure check their service bulletin. Just google "CSX service bulletin".

Are you still in South Carolina? Where in SC does CSX run 60-100 trains a day?

Nope, in TN for two days New Year's Eve and New Year's. Poor weather on the 31st making the 1st my only option really. I might be able to head out early on the second, too.

There is 40-80 TPD in Greenwood, SC (CSX) and 60-100 (cumulative) in Spartanburg, SC (where CSX and NS cross). Numbers are from Nick Benson's site railfanatlas.com (http://railfanatlas.com/map.php). Joe H. can correct me if I'm wrong, but nice catching that one.

I'd be interested in some conformation of these numbers. Seeing how Cajon Pass is down to about 50-60 a day, I would be surprised if there are 100 trains moving a day in the entire state of South Carolina.

Those numbers sound really high to me for Spartanburg, which I know better than I do Greenwood. I haven't been to Nick's site yet, but are those actual daily trains? Or possible trains? For instance, a grain train that runs once every few weeks is added into that number.

As far as operations here in the coalfields, everything is still running. I've noticed a slight decrease, but nothing too major.

Freight traffic is annulled until tomorrow.

Well, I was trackside for three and a half hours. Grand total of traffic: One hi-railer.
On the numbers being high, I'm not surprised. I realized today. This is the third time I have seen a hi-railer on patrol. All three times (1 hr, 2 hr, and 3.5 hrs in time trackside) I didn't saw another train. Is the hypothesis that a hi-railer indicates lack of other traffic (aside from where they are doing construction) supported by y'all's experience?

Happy New Year! http://arboristsite.com/images/smilies/cheers.gif

Sorry about the double post, but what the heck does MGMT mean? Is that the capacity for the line? That would seem reasonable.

There isnt 100 trains through Spartanburg. Maybe 30 with both CSX and NS combined.
