Was looking for some input on what lens to get for my Digital Rebel - It came with a 28-55mm lens. I'm looking to replace it with something better.

Take a look at the Canon 17-40, 28-105, or the 75-300. Those are all pretty good lenses which should suit you well.

I concur with all of Chris' choices. I also like
the 24-70m f2.8 and the 70-200 f2.8 non-IS lens.

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions. The problem that I'm having is that with the low end lenses that I can afford, which seem to have mostly good user reviews, have bad reviews from the pros. I will have a hard time justifying the dollars for an L series lens purchase to the wife.

I'm leaning towards the purchase of 2 prime lenses, a 50mm and a 135mm.

With the budget driving the decision, I would look at the
Canon 20mm, which I have and use, and the Canon
70-200mm f4, which is a highly regarded lens.

You will find that the 50mm isn't wide enough and
you need additional Focal Length than the 135mm
provides.

All the pictures on this page were taken with the 70-200 F/4L on a Digital Rebel at varying ISOs from 100 to 400.

Ok,

I blew that, forgot about the difference between film and digital cameras when it comes to lenses. What would be equivilant to a 35 mm film camera body with a 50mm lens for the digital version?

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM would be just the ticket. Thanks for sharing the link to your photos.

Sparky,

The conversion factor is 1.6x on my D60 and I think that is the same with the Digital Rebel as well. Some of you Nikon guys help me with what it is on those cameras (I want to say 1.5).

Given that info, a 28mm lens on a Canon D60 makes it an effective 44.8mm lens.
