OK, about 2 or 3 days ago, this photo had about 300 views. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=86968

Now poof! It has over 1000  ! I had posted a photo on RRPictureArchives a while back that experienced a similar phenomonon. I found out from a friend that the photo had been linked to TrainOrders.

If anyone knows where this photo got linked to, please help me! I don't think 600 RP browsers suddenly viewed my photo in 3 days... :D

I don't think that's the source of the views on your image here. The administator of Trainorders doesn't like railpictures.net and put special programming in place so that links to here aren't clickable. In addition, posts that reference a railpictures.net URL are usually deleted. Seems childish - doesn't it ?

That's pretty funny, Robert...
I searched Google for BNSF 8040, BNSF Downers Grove, etc., and couldn't find anything. It's not on editor's picks or screener's choice, so I have no idea...Unless it's really that good.

At one time All of my pictures had 200 views, then all but one of them went down to 50, then up to 100-225, where they are now, any idea what's going on?

Joe, it sounds like somebody posted a link to your pic on a mailing list or something along those lines ("Hey, this a cool pic" type post).

As per the ups and downs on the hit count, the database may have just burped.

I find it very puzzling why some photos get so many views in such a short period of time, while others don't. For example, look at two recent roster shots of NS primer Dash-9s that were recently posted only a day or two apart from each other:
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=87972
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=88182

I find it curious that the first photo has SO many more views than the second, although the second one is a better photo (much sharper). Did the comment about the handrails make people more curious and they clicked on it ?

I think it's someone posting a link on an internet group somewhere. I've been in the Central PA Yahoo! group, and some people like to post links to either their photos or ones they like.

If the group's big enough, you could get a large number of people checking it out...

Well, I find that if you add something in the remarks about an interesting object/feature in the shot that you can only see in the full-size version, more people will check it out. Also, the more comments a photo has, the more additional views it will get.

Hint, hint, everyone! Always put remarks on your photos! :)
