Hey guys,

I used to post here back in 2005, but drifted away from RP for a long time. For the past few months I've been posting pictures again, and thought I'd start visiting the forum again as well.

Anyway, I'm looking to you guys for help on color in low sun situations.

This one was rejected for bad color and obstructing objects.

I was a little surprised by the obstructing objects reject because the wood sticking out of the ground does not obstruct either locomotive, but I'll take it as a hint that this shot isn't what RP is looking for and not submit it again.

What I am wondering is what I should do to improve the color on shots like these. On my moniter, the color looks pretty good, but I'm interested in other people's input, since I love this type of sunlight.

The bad color is due to the dark foreground and the bright background. I'm thinking the two large sticks (one of which is blocking a freight car) is what they aren't crazy about.

Also, perhaps you could sharpen the image a bit. It may just be me, but it appears to be fuzzy.

RP has changed a lot in 5 years. I think that the people here would agree the standards are tighter. I don't know how to help you that much though, personally.

Thanks, man. I'm going to try shooting at that spot a little earlier in the afternoon and see if I have better luck.

Oh, I'm well aware of the higher standards. Many of my older shots wouldn't stand a chance these days!

I disagree with the obstructing object rejection. There are photos in the database with far worse obstructions. IMHO the stick blocking the freight car is not distracting because my eyes are focusing on the locomotives and not the freight. As for an alternative, how good is your aim? You could throw rocks at it, hoping one will snap it off. As for the stick on the left, it is more of a distraction. I think the photo would be better off without it altogether.
