Two of my photos were rejected, both for bad lighting. Can I fix them so they are accepted or should I just let them go?

Just let 'em go. The first one would become horribly overexposed if you tried to lighten it up. In addition to the second photo being too small, you were shooting on the dark side of the tracks.

I also noticed in the first picture you used the flash (even thought it is going away).

Don't use it on any active trains, you might temporarily blind the engineer or one of the crew - it pisses them off. Try to use the ambient light.
