Hello,

I got these two photos rejected. This one was for poor lighting. But it was during a snowstorm so theres no way i could have sun.

This one was rejected for poor color depth. I played around with a few techniques i was told but cant seem to get this one right.

And this one was rejected for backlit. Personally i think the shot looks cool with the sun on it like that. Any suggestions are greatly appreciaed! Thanks.

For the snow shot, that's a tough call; snow shots are just screener's preferrence on what's considered 'too dark' vs. 'a good snow shot.' I'm glad I don't have to make the choice. One thing about that shot though, it looks like everything's leaning to the right (i.e. horizon not level).

The second shot is well-composed, but the color's just...off. Don't know how to help there.

The third shot would have been accepted had you been on the other side of the tracks. But, if you like shots like that, don't let this site discourage you from taking them. Just be aware that those type of shots are generally rejected here.

Hope that helps.

For the first one, first try rotating the picture 1 degree counter-clockwise. Then re-crop it - make it tighter around the train. As for the lighting, go 1 degree at a time and adjust the gamma, brightness, and contrast in conjunction, just slightly until its at an acceptable looking level, and so it looks natural - and I would add more contrast to bring out the colors more, just don't over-do.

Second pic, try lightening it a bit and adjusting the contrast accordingly.

Third pic - personally I like all sorts of backlit shots - yours too, even though the sun angle a bit more head on would have been much better, but I think you should just let #3 slide - interesting, but I don't think they'll let it on.
