I finally made the jump from a point & shoot digi-cam to a DSLR. Although my Nikon Coolpix 5700 served me well, I really needed the flexibility of a DSLR. I decided a long time ago to go with Canon, but opted for the 6.3mp 10D over the 8mp 20D. The less expensive body allowed me to buy a better lens. The Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS "L" lens arrived yesterday. Now all I need is some good weather !
The 10D (used) came with a Canon plastic 50mm f1.8 lens. Although this is the cheapest lens I've ever seen, I was still able to get some decent photos (my last 2 Railpictures submissions). I can hardly wait to see what the "L" glass will do.

Excellent choice in camera and lens, Rob.
You'll want to get a wide angle in the future,
of course.

The 17-40mm, 24-70mm or 20mm prime
are all good choices.

I know we'll see some great photos from
you - as soon as the sky clears here in PA.

Robert-

Great move! I recently picked up a 20D, and I love it! I've got the 70-200mm f/4L, and that hardly ever leaves the camera body (didn't leave my Elan 7 until the 20D came in) - once you try the L glass, you'll never want to go back! My last 5 pictures on RP.net were all taken with the 20D and the 70-200 f/4L.

Good luck & enjoy your new camera!
Tom
