I thought it might be interesting to have a 3 photo series of UP's MGRRV. There were a couple of reasons that I wanted to post photos of this train.

First, during last weekends storms on the "Overland Route's" Donner Pass, this train first went to do battle in the Sierra on Friday where it received its manned helper set. Saturday it was pulled from Truckee back to the first siding east of Sparks, NV, Hafed with manned helpers leading it east. Sunday it made another run on the "hill," this time it made it up and over through the snow.

Second, manned helpers on Donner have been replaced by DPUs, it is now rare to see a manned helper set.

Anyway, two of the three photos were excepted, did have to recrop the first though. Reason for the rejection of the third photo was "bad angle."
I appealed the rejection. Was told; "Sorry Jim but generally we don\'t accept going away shots like this unless the composition/lighting is unique"

Well its not a going away shot, its a wonderful rag-tag helper set on the shove, pushing west towards the camera.

Anyway, I like the angle and I like the power of the "IN YOUR FACE" view of a helper set on the push. Yes I know, no sun or great clouds. But you take what you get when you get it.
