I searched the forums, but can't find the thread where we were talking about the Gooogle Maps Street View car. On Tuesday in Columbia, I ran across one near the Norfolk Southern yard

He was doing a U turn here because some railroad equipment was blocking Anrews Rd. which runs along the yard. Before then, I go a closer view in a neighborhood. Hope he got my good side.

Any idea about how long it will be until it is up on the site?

Joe,

What I would do is look around on Streetview and look for something that gives away the date. For me, something like this (http://maps.google.com/?ll=47.934821,-97.015122&spn=0,0.033023&z=16&layer=c&cbll=47.934821,-97.015122&panoid=9QiTasECcGTwX6pXxOCnrA&cbp=12,250.81,,0,6.9) helps, as that road was only closed one time within the last five years or so. I haven't yet, but I've thought about finding out from the city of East Grand Forks when exactly that work was performed, it would give it away. You could also look for animated signs at businesses that sometimes display the date, like this one (http://maps.google.com/?ll=47.889787,-97.062804&spn=0,0.016512&z=17&layer=c&cbll=47.889673,-97.0628&panoid=D2-8bOXGDguPJiSQfonYmw&cbp=12,296.4,,0,8.77).

BTW, the other thread was here:

I saw the google car in the Village of Davenport, IA, while on my trip to Trainfestival a couple of weeks ago! Our rental Ford Escape will now be on street view!

Usually anywhere between 6 to 24 months.

By the way, Google maintains a frequently-updated list here (http://maps.google.com/intl/en/help/maps/streetview/learn/where-is-street-view.html) of where Street View cars are currently driving. Since the start of this year, dozens of cars around the United States have been hard at work capturing high-resolution imagery to replace the low-resolution stuff mostly dating back to 2007-2008.

Cool. I was wondering if they had something like this. Thanks for the link.

Never knew about this either; thanks Mitch.

Guess I'll have to watch for them if I'm down in Fargo around now...
