This is quite an undertaking in southwestern PA. See the linked thread for a large series of photos chronicling the rebuild (from a rail trail!) of the Westland Branch on the Wheeling & Lake Erie. This branch is being resurrected to serve a new MarkWest natural gas plant, which will generate a large amount of traffic for the east end of the WLE. Note the large number of cars this plant will be handling. Perhaps this will finally bring some more predictable operations to the WLE, something which has eluded many a railfan over the years...

Hey now, South Western PA ;-)

There is still a lot of work to be done before they start laying down ties and rail but I'm hearing June for a completion date.

here is what appears to be a good history of the rail lines in the immediate area

As a kid I rode my bike in that area, certainly to Hickory and beyond; there was a nice covered bridge somewhere to the north that made for a nice destination. Once or twice I hung around the NW line for a bit, but never saw a train. I don't recall anymore if I ever rode on US 519, but probably did.
