Does anyone know who makes a flat car like this one in this photo in HO scale? [photoid=77459]

Walthers makes a 66' heavy duty flat car that looks like the one in the photo. They offer these for CSX, UP, Trailer Train and several others. There's also an undecorated version. Check the links below.

Thank you. However, my ideal thing to do is like the photo, put a smashed dash 9 on a flat bed. a dash 9 is 73', and those flats are only 66'. Is this correct about the lengh? and if so, then does anyone make a flat car that can be compatible with a dash 9?

Unfortunately those are the longest heavy duty flats I know of, and they wouldn’t fit an HO scale Dash 9. It's not uncommon for manufacturers to shorten the actual length of a car for model production, which might be the case here. Hope you find something that works.

If you're up to the task, you could lengthen the car by a scale 7-8 feet. But this would require cutting the car in half and then fabricating a styrene filler.

Walthers also makes an 81' depressed center flat car that's worth checking out.

ok thanks you guys. I was actually wrong about a dash 9 being 73' long...its is actually only about 55', and a 66' car will work fine. Thanks for your help.

Well, actually, you had it right the first time. A Dash-9 is 73' 2" long over the pulling faces.

What did you wind-up doing? I'm interested in modeling something like that...

 Wow I haven't though about that project in months! I've been mainly focusing on getting other cars on my railroad. I left off after beating up and weathering the Dash 9's shell. The purchasing of the perfect flat car is still in the future. ;)

I've already cut the BNSF body similar to your picture. From that picture, it looks like that engine is brand new but has caught on fire or something. With that, all it needs is rust and I am in the process of applying it at its front end.

I too cannot find a flat car that would accept such a load and as mentioned prior, without alterations to an existing flat car there's nothing out there that will fit - yet. The reporting marks of that pictured flat car is KRL (Kasgro Rail Lines) which describes it to be 75' inside clear. A good alternative that I've seen is an 81' heavy duty depressed center car that Walthers makes. The depressed center will help by providing clearance for the fuel belly. Ironically, Walthers makes this 81 footer in KRL.

Now if I can only find the tie-rod support...
