I just ordered some train tickets for a cross country trip, and was thinking of getting a scanner to use on the trip, and also when railfanning.

have any of you brought your scanners and listened to them when traveling on amtrak? i assume they dont have a problem with it. Was it worth it? Did you hear a lot of stuff?

I bring mine sometimes, and I never had any problems.

If you're taking a scanner, just be sure to have some headphones with it for the sake of courtesy. While you might want to hear the radio chatter, I don't think the majority of riders would.

Yes but how many dogs?

As far as a scanner goes, sounds like a good idea. Like Caleb said though, bring headphones.

Come on down. The only prerequisite for moving down here is that you have to open up a pizza place. :D Just get used to hearing, "You ain't from around here are ya?"

As far as trains are concerned, we see over 20 a day, and are about 30 miles from Danville where there's sometimes 50+ a day. No Amtrak though...
