View Full Version : Focus problem with Canon Rebel

After 30 years of shooting film, I switched over to digital using a Canon Rebel
SLR. I wanted to duplicate 35 mm shots as I had done in the past. Noting
the conversion factor of 1.6, I set the focal length at 35 mm. That really
helps to get away from "exaggerated bulky shots" due to compression.

My major problem is focus. Again, I wanted to keep old practices, and set
the shutter speed at 1/500 (Tv mode). You would never know it by viewing
the final image. Same is true of any setting I use, even manual. I can correct with Photoshop, sometimes pushing to the limits. But I had hoped
for better, considering the price and my experience. I've experimented over
and over with no success. I'm about ready to send the camera to the
service center.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

What camera/lens combination are you using? And do you have an example that you can show us?

There have been numerous problems with the auto-focus on Canon DSLRs over the years, and although things are generally ok now it could be that camera was one of a batch which was having problems. I am having the same difficulties with a Canon 10D and have taken to using manual focus to get around it but this obviously causes problems and leaves me with a higher number of out of focus shots......but until I have some money I just have to put up with it.
