View Full Version : Your Best Photo(s)
it has been a while from last time we did this, and besides, there are new forum members now
i think it's a good way to learn from other forumites (is that a word?)
anyways, not much to learn from me, but my favourite 2:
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=31372
i like the way the light blue appears like a "halo" over the engine
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=32172
nothing special, but i like the composition

I think my best are these:
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=29342
The sun setting gives ample light and shows alot of detail.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=26635
I like the composition in this one.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=26468
A good roster shot with the sun hitting the nose.
This would be even more interesting now since there are many more active members in the forums.

I like the Syntus one! It gives an ordinary commuter train a lot of character.
And the ICE 3...well, it's really dirty!

Well.. what can I say, at 300 km/h flies find it difficult to evade you. That's why those trains over at your place always look so crisp!

The sad thing is, there are still lots of dirty and rusting trains here! :x

Well I don't have that many pictures here in the database but if i should choose from those i would take this one:

This has one special reason. It still has the old InterRegio coaches and in addition to that this train brought me to a soccer match which my favourite team won... :D

Yep, i think for some IRE they've just let them like that or they haven't got the new colours yet. Everything is possible...
And no, my fave team is not Karlsruhe... it's Stuttgart, they've played against Panathinaikos FC from Greece that day and they won 2-0 :D
Pretty dangerous to like Stuttgart when you live in Karlsruhe  but i don't care...

Out of yours, I like 37216 the best. If I remember correctly, it was your first digital shot (or one of them). Remember at the beginning how you were struggling with film? I think I even attempted to PS one of them. Look how much you've improved! Great shots! :)

The thing that sucks for me is that I don't have a scanner that will scan above 300 dpi...or a digital camera. (If anybody has any ideas on another alternative, please let me know! :D ) Out of the few pics I have online, (the ones that I deemed turned out decent), this is probably my favorite...

I guess you use film like me. What I found to do is that when you take the film to get them developed ask them if they can put them on CD for you. The place I go has a 35mm film scanner and it scans at like 4000+dpi. My photo's that I have had done this way are great. Very good quality photo's on CD for only $6 to $10. Meijer does it for $6 at 4000DPI , click camera $9 but they use a 5000+DPI scanner. Just ask the photo shop what kind of film scanner they have and what the resolution is.
Here are some that were scanned at Meijer and Click Camera!

I like the angle you got for photo 32945.
Were you in a ditch or did you have to lay down for that shot?

Lying down, sorta. My camera's body rotates around the lense (Sony F717). I placed the camera on the ground and tilted the body upwards so I could see on the display what I was shooting.

You had daylight! WOW!
In the Netherlands there has been a fog you won't believe! At times I could not even see the top of the church tower. Total waste for photography. Makes everything unsharp and that's a bloody shame.
Today I saw 4 rare trains! Only two I could make a picture of because the fog briefly turned away. The other was a total waste.
I did get one succesful fog shot, but it was rejected for having something blocking the view. I actually liked that one best of all pictures made! Most of the background was faded away, I mean completely grey! All that ugly industrial area around the station was completely gone! GREAT SHOT

Alright here's some of mine.
First up is the number one slot of my 74 pics. NW 1218 2-6-6-4.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=19958
These two show why I like curves and zoom lenses.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=34594
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=19944
This one I like just because of the way the colors really stand out on the lead. I shot it on 200ASA Elitechrome. A 11X14 print pulled from this slide is in my living room.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=17540
These last two are one that I thought wouldn't do too well or should have done better. First one I thought might get 20 or so views if it got accepted at all the main reason that I loaded it was that it is one of the few decent shots I have from when I used to live near the Clinchfield RR. But to my suprise it is #8 out of 74.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=23391
Next is one that I liked and expected to do better but didn't. I liked the shot on the bridge and that it was a C44-6W.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=18144
Of course I like all my shots for one reason or another. And I really like the opportunity to be able to view pics from other photographers.
Take care all
