on the rail system in the UK train directions are refered to either up or down line. which way is which???? thanx, gunfyter

as the british soldiers who entered the railways in egypt so i think that the control rules are similar to UK's control rules for trains.
here in egypt the up line is which on the right and the down line on the left.
thats from what i know for the egyptian control rules for trains.
The 'Up' line is the one on which trains travel towards a major rail intersection (normally London). The 'Down' line is the one on which trains travel in the opposite direction to those on the 'Up' line.
