Here are the results and some pictures from our 11th fall train watch in Dupo, IL. This began Friday the 23rd at 0600 and ended on Sunday the 25th at 1800. 82 trains passed through during that time, a number a little lower than past years. It seemed BNSF and UP both cut Houston traffic, which accounted for the loss of several trains through Dupo. For the same reason, which was likely Hurricane Rita, we did not see any southbound grain.

Overall we had a great weekend. Photography was a little difficult as the high clouds and haze hung tough Friday and Saturday, then Rita gave us an all day soaking Sunday.

The drunks were out in Dupo Saturday morning, and thank God for cheap entertainment provided by people in the state of being completely plowed. As the story goes from what I have gathered, this moron had some words with someone else at a bar across from Dupo Yard. People patronizing this bar park next to the tracks. In his agitated and inebriated state, this rocket scientist selected the wrong gear before tearing off, thrusting himself on the tracks at 3 in the morning. The Dupo police showed up after he tried to free his truck from the mainline. All the while, and quite unfortunately for this poor Ford, AASEW 23 was heading south. The police were able to pull the person from the truck just before it was rear ended by an SD70M. I guess it is seldom that train / car accidents result in rear end collisions, but never underestimate what one can accomplish after a night of slamming Pabst Blue Ribbons. Unfortunately, my arrival coincided with the wrecker truck pulling the vehicle away from the train, but you still get the idea. As you can see, damage is not huge, but there was a nice dent in the tailgate and the bed was pushed up a bit.

The rest of these trains were all seen during our weekend and are from the list below.

ZYCLD 22 at the south end of Dupo Yard:

2AASEW 23 had this former DRGW unit, so I chased it south. Lighting was marginal. Luckily, he ended up passing another train, 2AMXAS 21, with a former SP on the point:

ALDAS 20 with a former EL unit in the middle:

QASLI 24 headed south while we were checking out what was sitting up in town. We decided it would be a nice shot heading south of Dupo with the JB Bridge in the background, so we shot it in both locations:

http://n691lf.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=195531

The sun was quickly fading behind the clouds of Hurricane Rita already. This was one of the last shots of the day for that reason. These are both CJOAT9 21 returning to Dupo. The first was taken from BB Road looking over a field that will be a shopping center in a few years. The shot stinks, I just did it for a future comparison. The second shot is the DPU at the BB Road crossing:

Clouds don't matter at night, unless they are dropping rain, I suppose. It was just sprinkling at this point when KMQYC 24 came in to town. Since he had to make a setout, I headed into town and shot him. It was tough, but he finally stayed in one place long enough to get the exposure:

Now the weather was about as drab as it could get. This was our last train of the event, MCHNL 24. We figured since it had the DWP unit, why not shoot it?

Sorry for the formatting on this, I do not know how to keep it in the table form in which I wrote it originally.

Great shots!!!! I really like the one that's far away, looks like you can reach over and pick it up. Sounds like you guys had fun, ashame the sun didn't pop out more for you. Thanks for all the photos and train info.
