I am back from a week in Western PA and Maryland visiting family and enjoying the fall colors of in the Mountains. While we spent most of the time shooting NS and CSX, I did manage a day to get over to Cumberland Maryland to shoot the Western Maryland Scenic and thier LS&I 2-8-0 on the daily trip from Cumberland to Frostburg. Here are a few links from the day from my wife and I... Look for more photos of contempary subjects from the trip in the near future.

WMSR 734 around the shop in Ridgley, West Virginia, just across the Potomac river from Cumberland.

A few detail shots of of the 734 while it wiated at the WM station in Cumberland. I love shooting these type of shots with steam...you can do the same with diesels, but its just not the same..

That's a terrific batch of photos... you and your wife must've had a great time. I especially love the black-and-white shots.

Steam engines seem almost "alive." They breathe and eat and they can even be tempermental at times. Steam is always very intriguing to the eye since there is so much action and movement.

But, yes, indeed that is an excellent group of steam photos :) .
