Went to Tehachapi last weekend 11/19-20. On the way up, I stopped in Cajon for a strech break. I saw one train.
I arrived in Tehachapi at around 2:00 pm had lunch at the Apple Shed after seeing 2 UP manifests with DPU's entering Mojave. After lunch, I went towards Monolith where a random CSX Dash 8 was ideling on a siding. Grabed a shapshot of that.
After that, I went to the Loop. By now it's around 3:00, and I know I only have about another hour of good sunlight. Unfortunately I had to wait almost an hour until the first train came down the loop. The picture lighting didn't come out so good.
Now the sun had already went behind the mountian, and I knew I had no chance of taking any good pictures in Bealville or Caliente. Just as I was exiting the secret trail, I look back and see the headlights of yet another BNSF train coming up the loop. It happened to be the Z train.
Next day, I had to leave early in the morning. But I was able to cross the street and go train watching for a little bit. Luckly, a train came. It was an Eastbound BNSF manifest.
As it went by, I noticed that it was slowing, then stopped. The crew member got out, and I thought he was going to tell me that I can't be taking pictures of his train. Instead, he was really nice and talked to me. He was stopped to grab breakfast at a local diner. Then he got back up into the cab and highballed.

And then I went home. I was really surpised at the lack of UP trains.
