The NS test trains 25A and 26A have made a couple of round trips now between Croxton and Atlanta on a fast 26-30 hr schedule. They run on the NEC from NJ thru Philly (right thru 30th St Station!) to DC (Landover) then on ex-SOU main to Atlanta. The power is a match set of 4 ex-CR GP40-2s in fresh "horsehead" paint.

Where are the pictures?????

P.S. the 25A will run on 10/29, 11/4 and 11/8 from Atlanta. The 26A on 10/25, 10/31, 11/6, and 11/12 from Croxton.

I saw a couple shots of it over on "the dark side...aka, Flame orders)...if you titlted your head just right, you could almost tell there was a train in them

I read that the NS had to make modifications to a few Geeps to allow them to have clearance to operate over the NEC in this service. I figure they cut notches in the snow plows to clear third rail, moved the horns and other high stuff down....anyone know exactly what all they did??

They should be fast paced intermodals.

Excellent! (except for 37042 which is an unmodified GP40-2)

What speed do they operate at? I like to watch these Intermodals when they are moving fast. I go up to the former Conrail Indianapolis line and watch all the time. Q115 normally goes by at 60mph but I remember times the DeGraff detector read 68, 69 and 70mph.

I would suspect they operate at 65+Mph. Note sure exactly, though. Does anybody know?

60 mph max on NS. 70 mph max on CSX (at least between Albany NY and Chicago). The extra 10 mph really doesn't save much time unless you really horsepower up the train. Conrail dropped from 70 max to 60 back in the mid 90s. I think CSX is fooling themselves....
