I Saw the Amtrak Acela on this page, it is the coolest high speed train I Seen and the look of it is nice.

I Wish Amtrak could make more high speed trains like this.

That type of train service is VERY expensive to build the corridor for, so you will not see it expanded anywhere else in the US anytime soon. The technology is neat, I dont care for it though. Id rather see a Baldwin with a hot fire working up a grade with a heavy train anyday!

Plus it is EXTREMILY expensive to ride it. I just did a quote check on amtrak.com to find that traveling from New York to Washington D.C. would cost $100 more on the Acela than on the economy Regional Service. ($63 for a Regional, $168 on Acela.) Also by taking the Acela I would only get there about 40 minutes quicker than the Regional, and to me, $100 is way too much to save 40 minutes of travel time.

Never really been a huge fan of electric trains though. I prefer the Diesels.;-)

Looks fast, but still has nothing over a quartet of E-units.

That would be cool, but freight cars aren't designed to go high speed. I read that they can't go much more than 70 mph before derailing...

I love Electric trains... Quiet and fast.

Freight cars are poorly maintained and not as well equipped as Passenger cars. Almost all freight cars I've seen have flat spots, and I believe the brake line is one of maybe two computer systems linking all the cars, not to mention that the brakes themselves are not designed for high speed, and would probably decintigrate if they were used at speeds over about 90 MPH.

There are some exceptions, Amtrak's ExpressTrak boxcars and Reefers had to be specially designed with high-speed braking systems, electricity systems and all the air lines passenger cars need. In fact, only about half of Amtrak's Boxcar fleet is "fully compatible" with passenger-train service... the other half MUST be at the end of the train because they do not have systems which passenger cars need.

Florida needs to start voting on a high speed train.
