This is the second installment of my railfanning report. This one focuses
on my railfanning around Stuart, FL on the Florida East Coast Railway. For
those of you not aware, the web-site http://www.fecrs.com/ lists the
estimated schedules of all of the FEC trains. This proved to be a valuable
resource while railfanning, since I could maximize my trains while still
helping out the parents and taking trips to the beach.

Anyways, on to the trains....

I discovered a great vantage point in Stuart, FL of the St. Lucie River
Drawbridge from the new US1 bridge. Here we see a SB trailer train
crossing the river at mid-morning, with the old US 1 bridge in the
background. I love this shot, and I think it might become one of my
all-time favorites. If you look at nothing else, please look at this one...

Here are some other views of trains on the bridge from this elevated
vantage point. I got lucky one morning with good light and 3 trains in 25
minutes...

sailboats with a NB train...

Another SB...

Here is another view of the bridge, though from water level...

Last view of the bridge, I promise... This is a NB local in the afternoon.

My vantage point for the aerial photos is near the middle street lamp on
the bridge...

Lastly, a NB loaded rock train passing downtown Stuart...

I hope to get some more FEC shots in May when I get back down there prior
to starting my full-time real-world job in June...

Enjoy & Thanks for looking,
Patrick

Good work, Patrick. I really enjoyed those pics, and contrary to what you might be thinking, I did not get tired of seeing that bridge in your photos!

is this yellow locomotive in the first pic was working for UP first then sold to FEC?
Correct. FEC locomotives 701-720 are SD40-2's purchased from Union Pacific. These brought 6-axle extended range dynamic breaking to a state that doesn't have any mountains. (Note that the second unit in the photograph does not have any dynamic brakes (fans over the middle of the car body) and the rear unit, a 4-axle has only standard dynamic brakes.

FEC will be receiving four new SD70ACe units around September. These new units are for traffic growth (and fuel economy) and the yellow units will continue working. Some of the lease units (LTEX) will undoubtably disappear if they haven't already.

Seriously it was a well thought out report and the pictures complimented it nicely.
