I used to live 20 minutes from Stuttgart.

That station has like 30 tracks and busy 24/7 (including an abundance of ICEs) Plus, it's not like here all security sensitive and guarded. You could just walk around the platforms and station, no one cares. You can even board the trains, just as long as you get off before it leaves.

Hello,
you are totally right, but I have the feeling that it is like that on every German trainstation.
I mean i didn't make any bad experiences myself and i havent only been to Stuttgart.
Mebbe I'll post few more pictures soon, which i have taken in Stuttgart.

That is the case in pretty much the hole of Europe.

I have been to NL (duh), Germany and Belgium and could get on all the platforms except for the Eurostar platforms. In some countries, for instance France and the UK, you must get a ticket to be able to enter the platform as there are turnstiles (sp?). Just buy the cheapest ticket there is and you are able to spot trains for a full day!

A platform ticket can be purchased at any British railway station and allows you up to an hour on the platforms for just 10 pence. But railway stations in the UK have become much more security conscious since 9/11 so if you are taking pictures be careful.

It is only in major urban areas that stations have ticket barriers, but even at small stations you should still have a ticket if you want to go on the platform.

When I was in Germany, you didn't need a ticket. Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, or a tiny town somewhere...it's all the same. Sigh...too bad it's almost like an airport here. You buy a ticket wait in the boarding hall until the train comes, go out to the train and board. Why didn't I think of taking photos when I was in Germany! :x
