GE flame deflectors?

I am not sure if anyone has noticed this, but I have noticed that the NS has rigged up what looks like a "flame deflector" on the tops of several GE's (all on C39's and Dash 8's that I have seen)

I saw two of these a week or so ago. They look like a 55 gal drum cut in half, and welded to the topof the carbody just behind the stack...anyone else noticed these??

I've not noticed them yet, but will probably be on the lookout for them now that you've mentioned it. But then again, does it really help the characteristic stack fire?
