So this summer my dad and I plan on taking a vacation to the east coast (of America), to some railfanning at places like Sand Patch, Horshoe Curve, East Broad Top, and points along the Susquehanna.

So my question is, can anyone recomend any good railfanning spots in those areas, as well as some live steam/museams or other points of interest???

Thanks for the help!!!!

There's a nice overlook at Cassandra Pa, just a few miles westish of Cresson.

Just follow the signs for "Overlook"

Consider heading west to Johnstown. The flood museum up at South Fork is very interesting and you can see the foundations of the original penstock equipment that was removed when the reservoir was originally abandoned. Later industrialists like Schwab (Bethlehem Steel) and Carnagie (Steel) rebuilt the dam to create a beautiful resort at the top of the mountain. Torrential rains in May 1889 flooded the lake and took out the dam killing thousands.

If you and your dad have not finalized your accomodations yet I would recommend a night at the Staion Inn in Cresson, PA. You are in the heart of the "Horseshoe" area, right next to one of the busiest mainlines in America, and the Inn guarantees at least one train an hour or your they will take 50% off of your bill. Check them out HERE (http://www.stationinnpa.com/).

I'd highly recommend the station inn. I stayed there for a week this past April and had a great stay. Very easy to get to Horseshoe from there. Also it's not to far of a ride to Sandpatch either.
