Will somebody please get me straight, does the AC4400 have 2 different truck arrangements? I'll fess up to not being up on my loco ID :( so when I see photos of these mammoths, I see bell-bottoms one time and another it looks like an EMD truck! :x When I think I got a handle on them I get hit with something else.Forget about trying to ID by the window on the nose GE to the right GM on the left, some units don't have any windows! I'm saving up for a spotters guide but until then, can anybody help an almost alter-boy out? :)

I constructed this little guide for you:

AC4400CW's do have two different types of trucks. The first being the standard Dash-9 truck: http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/photos/CW44AC/0002CSX-bc.jpg

The second being GE's equivalent of EMD's "radial truck": http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/photos/CW44AC/0548CSX-bc.jpg

The only railroads that I know of that use the GE radial truck design are CSX and CP.

Here is EMD's radial truck on a CSX SD70MAC: http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/photos/SD70AC/0734CSX-bc.jpg

By viewing the photos you can see the similarities and differences between the GE radial truck and the EMD radial truck.

A good way to tell a GE from an EMD is that GE's have radiator "wings" on the rear of the locomotive.

A rear view of a CSX GE AC4400CW with radiator "wings": http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=34503

Here's an NS SD70M with "flared radiators": http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=35952~Note that the radiators are not as prominent as the GE ones are.

I hope this will help you out! :)
