I was working at our Brooklyn yard the other night and noticed that the old steam engines were getting steamed up. I dropped in and talked to a few of the guys volunteering there, and they said they had some shindig going on this weekend here in Portland. If any of you guys are in the area I dont think this is one to miss.

The engines are the SP and S 700, and the SP 4449.

The "Shindig"
SP&S #700 and SP #4449 running again, and again, and again...

http://www.orhf.org/events/06holiday/index.html

PM #1225 also running several Santa Trips on the East Coast.
Now if we could just get the NKP #765 to join in...

Happy Holidays everyone!

UP1996 is also running around in oregon in the Columbia gorge, it maybe a false hope, but maybe UP1996 will join 4449 for one of the runs?

I work for UP out of Albina. I am second out, and it looks like I am not getting called. Too bad our tickets are for 2pm. I will be riding a train one way or the other before tomorrow morning.

Mike (SD70MACMAN) and I made the 3.5 hour drive to Portland from Seattle to check out this amazing piece of machinery in action. Never having seen road steam in action SP 4449 blew me away! Apparently next week they'll be running the SP&S 700, but this is definitely something to go check out (especially since there's a bike trail that parallels the track it runs on!)

My girlfriend and I went and saw this yesterday, and it was really fun. I got two train rides yesterday, one inside of a warm observation car, and one outside freezing my but off hanging on the side of a boxcar.

My forman and I saw the 700 this morning and went over to check her out. It was a trip standing in the cab with a remote box on my belly.
