JUst a reminder, dont forget to try out the Chat Room here at RP. As traffic here on the forums picks up, it will be a good place to meet and talk trains, photography or what ever!!

You can access the chat room from the front page. Make sure you have Java turned on to get in. I will start popping in there more often, and invite you to do the same.

I'll come in and at least idle. What's the server address and channel. I'm going to use Polaris IRC to connect.

It would be cool if we could get more activity in there.

Curtis..

it says...

irc.sorcery.net
server port 6667

and you can also get in from the front page at RP if you dont have irc access.

Maybe we need to set up a scheduled chat night...anybody have any thoughts on that?

The java IRC won't work for me.

Ok... the irc.sorcery.net is the server, so that's what I needed. The channel is #railpictures. I'm set now.

Thanks.

The Java IRC wont work for me either. A red x appears in the upper left hand corner. And I'm very sure I have Java enabled, too. Not sure what the problem is.

For those of you having problems, here is a link to download mIRC:

http://www.mirc.com/get.html

When you install that, run it. You will see a window that looks like it should be the chat box. In the part at the bottom that you can type in, put these commands:

/server irc.sorcery.net

/nick XXXXX (to set your nickname, XXXXX being what nick you want)

/join #railpictures

That should get you in. Try to get in through the main page if you can. It would save some trouble.

The directions I gave were not for coming in through the main page, but for using mIRC or some other client.

I'm using IE 6.0. I'll just download mIRC and see how it goes from there.

Any idea how to get the RP link to the chat room to work? I've only got 27 days left on iMRC. I get a red 'X' when clicking on the RP link.

mIRC should be free if you get that. It's a pretty nice program.

I agree, it is nice. It is free but you have a limited amount of days (30) that they give before you have to register or else the program will no longer work. I heard you have to pay a one-time fee of $20.00 to register. Is this true? I hope not because, I too, only have 27 days left and I would like to keep mIRC for ever!

I've had mIRC for over a year and never seen anything about it not working if I don't register.

Hmm... On mine it says, "Unlicensed evaluation copy" "Evaluation time left: 27 days" So I guess we have nothing to worry about?

I took a second look at the mIRC website. Upon review of the play, it has been decided that a new version has been released which requires you to register it.

I found a website that still serves v6.03, the version I'm using now. I recall this version asking me to register, but I don't think it had a set time when it would expire.... and I don't remember cracking it, either.

Here's the link: http://www.mircx.com/download.html

Try v6.03 over on the top of the third column. I hope this works. It's what I have been using for quite a while, so I don't see why it wouldn't.

Again, sorry for the trouble.

Scratch that. Disregard the last post. You do have to enter a registration key. Contact me in the chat room sometime and I should be able to clear things up.

Forget I said all that in the last post. It is now out of your memory.

No, this is the forums. I believe the RP chat room was discontinued quite a while ago. The last post before yours, was from 2003.

Glad to see this used. It would bea great way for all members to chat without worrying about having AIM, Yahoo, MSN, etc. No one in the room right now, but it is 1130 PM CST. Hope to see y'all there soon.
