ICE-3
http://www.railpictures.net/images/i/ice3-2deklasse.jpg.35251.thumb (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=32947) http://www.railpictures.net/images/i/ice5.JPG.75321.thumb (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=23712) http://www.railpictures.net/images/i/ice3.JPG.85995.thumb (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=23709)

The ICE-3 is probably one of the best trains around, but bloody expensive! Long distance trains are very expensive in Germany, and one of the main reasons for that is because of this train! On the plus side, the best seats ever fitted in a train, headset radio, TV in 1st class, information displays, speeeeeeed and good looks. More noisy on the inside then the Eurostar though!

DD-IRM
http://www.railpictures.net/images/d/ddirm-top.jpg.35326.thumb (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=30786) http://www.railpictures.net/images/d/ddirm-beneden.jpg.10324.thumb (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=30785) http://www.railpictures.net/images/d/ddirm-8624.jpg.48729.thumb (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=29307)

The new model double decker trains in the Netherlands. Quite fast, good acceleration and nice seats. The seats in the newer models are better then those in the older models. They are very quiet in all carriages except in those that have the power connection. Those cars are to be avoided at all times! They have a very annoying sound that is best described as Scottish bagpipers running amok on the roof!

DM'90 "Buffel"
http://207.44.222.57/images/images2/p/pjgttogb-dm90.jpg.22718.thumb (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=42359) http://www.railpictures.net/images/d/dm90-3410-2.jpg.26070.thumb (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=29309) http://www.railpictures.net/images/b/buffel1.jpg.96384.thumb (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=27082)

The best local train in the world as long as it is not warmer then 28celsius outside. The windows open only barely and there is no airconditioning. This train can therefore get very warm. The seats are excellent, the speed is good as is the acceleration and they are steady as a rock.

Honorable mention: Lint 41
http://www.railpictures.net/images/l/lint41-36-foto1.jpg.53906.thumb (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=32945) http://www.railpictures.net/images/l/lint41cockpit.jpg.70486.thumb (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=30787) http://www.railpictures.net/images/d/Dsc02754.jpg.91848.thumb (http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=24771)

This train is mentioned more for its gadgets then anything else. Every gadget that this train has should be transferred to the DM'90 to make the DM'90 perfect. Airconditioning for starters, automatic announcements ("the next station is.... change for the bus/train to....), LED display announcing stations and time etc. The seats are horrible though and it is a lot more cramped and noisy then the DM'90 is. It does have a very impressive acceleration, it accelerates faster then the DD-IRM. Don't believe me? Take the Syntus train from Zutphen to Winterswijk. There this train leaves at the same time as the intercity to Zwolle that is operated by the DD-IRM. The little bugger always wins!

I loved riding all the super fast trains in Europe. The summer of 2000 I rode the ICE, X2000, TGV and the Belgien super fast train as well as a whole host of slower trains all over Europe.
