Railvideos.net ?

That would be pretty cool or rather a youtube for trains. I post videos on youtube which are better than a lot of videos on there, but would probably be rejected if they had to pass a screening! I like to shoot video clips when the light isn't that great.

Sounds like a good idea, there must be a demand for a site hosting good quality railroad videos.

Time to look at buying a camcorder again!

Unfortunately, that's already been registered by someone in WA.

Thats just it, we need the good quality videos. Other sites compress them down so much the quality goes to crap. I know RP.net will bring us the good videos. I'll be looking for this addition.

Does Mate1 do video ads?

All kidding aside, can we find out a bit more on what kind of minimum requirements the video section will have (length, resolution, etc.)? These could be important criteria for us to start considering, given the fact that the holiday shopping season is rapidly approaching...

Great. Now I need to figure out why my station's system will not let me upload videos to the web. I think the files are too big. So far, the only video it let me load was one on a dreary day with a bad camera move. (At least the camera was on something called a tripod, which most posters to YouTube apparently have never heard of before.)

Jaypee_Logger, not only better quality files but better camera work as well - especially (as Joe rightly points out) a TRIPOD

Were there to be a video site ;), the technical requirements would be something like:

- At least 640x480 resolution
- At least 1500k/sec bitrate
- Maximum filesize 30mb
- Uploaded in .WMV format (with the potential to support more formats not long after launch)

As far as acceptance standards, those have been discussed, but not set in stone. I can state for sure that they won't be anything like the standards to get a photo accepted on RP.

How much footage (m/s) would that equate to? I might have misunderstood your post, but that doesn't sound like a whole lot to me.

Hi there, a good thing to see this new website.
What it did to me: only that I finally started to work on my videos.
Gave it up early due to a lack of patience.
And now, motivated by your site (also after that we started at home with Windows Movie Maker) I realized my first train movies.
Thank you for this opportunity to show one's work !

I'll be looking forward to submitting vids myself. Btw, are there plans to support 16x9, rather than squishing them?

The video doesn't seem to be streaming very well, it's kind of choppy. However, when I scroll down and about half of the video's frame is on the screen, the frame rate at least doubles. What's up with this? Does anyone else have this problem?
