View Full Version : Bad Cropping?

I have tried to upload a photo and it was rejected for "bad cropping" both time. I'm not sure what you are looking for.

The first version is here: http://i2.i-2000.com/~cromano/reject/rj1.jpg I would try to rotate it a little if I had to do it over again, but otherwise it looks acceptable to me.

Soooo, I tried cropping to empasize the train more. http://i2.i-2000.com/~cromano/reject/rj2.jpg The trees on the left side that are cut-off look a little strange but that is a reslult of the tighter cropping. http://i2.i-2000.com/~cromano/reject/rj2.jpg

I'm very confused. This one (that was similar to the original submission) was accepted. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=52892 Where do I go from here?

I like the accepted photo.

In the first rejection, the train seems lost in the trees, especially with choice of b/w. The accepted photo has a definite focal point and the lead unit is crisp. From what I have learned here, is that there is too much sky, and the tangle of bare branches bury the train.

In my rejection experience, if the train is not the main focal point, there had better be lush green hills like in California or a majestic mountain looming in the background like shots from the Rockies.

By the way: the link to the second rejection isn't working.

Second link has been fixed.

The one accepted does not have distracting shadows on the locomotives, which is a reject reason I use from time to time. The ones rejected, had I screened them, might have been given a distracting shadow rejection. I don't really have an issue with the cropping myself, but every screener is different.
