How tall can a camera be before the train will hit it in this case? This was a great video, and very neat to watch, but I have to wonder if the photographer knew whether or not his camera was going to survive?

Reminds me of Pink Houses.

I'd only consider doing this if it were my station camera.... and they knew I was doing it.

Most any consumer camera nowadays are small enough. Basically, it just can't be above the rail. Then nothing will hit it. (Excepting dragging equipment)
Check out this one by me. http://www.rail-videos.net/video/view.php?id=1824
I recently got a new camcorder so my old one became my "stunt" camera.
Four run-by's and it's still going strong. One comment is true: getting the camera not to move is a challenge; mine was level at least. I think it has to do with how high the maintenance is of the track. I think a NS mainline is more solid than a little steam railway! :-)
