It seems there are a lot of large train crashes recently. A few weeks back there was a large train accident in Iran, and today an accident has happened in North korea.

Two freight trains collided in a train station. Both trains carried explosive materials, LPG (Liquefied Petrol Gas) and petrol. The result was a massive explosion that may have taken the live of 3000 people. Of course no real details should be expected anytime soon as North korea is not much of an open society.

Just 9 hours before the accident "the great leader" Kim Jong Il passed through the ill fated station. Dutch radio news (3FM) has been speculating that this may have been the cause of the accident. Because Kim Jong Il passed by all traffic was halted for the duration. This seems to be a standard procedure which is not restricted to trains but also goes for airports, seaports etc. When Kim Jong Il had left there where many trains that where being rushed to catch up with their timetables. This MAY have caused the accident.

Others are speculating this was an assasination attempt of Kim Jong Il. That though would seem unlikely since Kim Jong Il passed by much earlier.
