I've recently purchased a Canon HG10 camcorder. The camera comes with Corel software and includes InterVideo WinDVD SE, Ulead DVD Movie Factory SE, and DVD Movie Writer SE. However, I've had nothing but problems trying to install the software and haven't been able to upload my videos from my camcorder to my computer on account. Without the software, my computer cannot read the video format outputted by the camcorder. Has anyone else had any problems with this particular software and, perhaps, know a remedy? If not, I've been checking out another Video Editing software called PowerDirector. Does anyone have any input on that software as well? Any comments or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you have Windows Movie Maker, just use that. I have an HV20, and the new version of WMM supports high def video. Programs like Ulead and Premiere Elements for Windows have too many bugs.

I took your advice. I installed WMM. Problem is, the HG10 records in a format that WMM doesn't read. I've tried three different video format conversion downloads and none of those will convert the video format. It's one I've never seen before ... .mts
Can you help me with that one?

Have you tried importing directly through WMM? Do you have XP or Vista?
It sounds like you captured through HDVSplit.

After talking with someone at Canon today, I found out that WMM doesn't read AVCHD files. I probably should've mentioned this was a high-def cam. I downloaded a 30 day trail of PowerDirector and I've been able to import the files just fine. I'm going to give this software a try and see what it can do.
Thanks for helping me get started.

My HV20 is high definition, but it records on digital MiniDV tapes. I've been able to capture HD footage through WMM, but I guess that can't be done with the HG10, since it records onto an onboard hard drive.
I was confronted with a similar situation when I got my cam.
You may be able to lock the camera on to standard definition and import it that way, if you are dying to view your footage.

Try setting the HG10 to Forced HV output. It should look like this in the menu "HDV->HV" That should get the software to at least force it to get the video from the AVCHD file format. However you lose the best quality and drop it down.
I have the HV20 like Frederick. I prefer the tape over HD. But other than some of my media customers want MiniDV, its a personal preference.
