You should've gotten an e-mail from the screeners with a reason for rejection. If not, it may take a little time to show up.

I don't want to speak for the screeners, but here are my thoughts on why these two were rejected:

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=19521:
The horizon is a little unlevel and the subject (the train) is lost in the clutter. Perhaps waiting until the train got to the grade crossing would have helped.

Two things probably killed this one: 1) It's backlit (the sun's on the other side of the tracks from where you were standing) and 2) Foreground clutter (Sumac tree) on the lead loco. Also, the horizon might be a tad uneven.

Just my thoughts. Hope that helps.

I would guess the first one was too far away and the second was bad angle.
I have had these very problems myself. (experienced in rejection :D ) You may be able to fix the second one with a slight crop and rotation.

First photo:
The train's too far away and the horizon is tilting towards the left.

Second photo:
Yes, it is backlit. Perhaps standing on the other side of the tracks on top of the wall would have produced a better angle as well as better lighting.
