VIA Rail Canada is about to introduce a line from pearson airport to toronto union station. This link was suppose to be a high speed link (hence why via was testing the BBD Jet Train) Now because VIA has once again been "shit" on by the government they lost their grant ($1 billion CAD, approx $50 USD  ) with this grant they were suppose to be laying a third main line from quebec to windsor and having all Class 8 high speed rails (type of CWR) but now that is gone so yea that blows however VIA will be using their budd cars on the pearson - union line which is not too bad!

Wasn't VIA Rail also testing its self propelled railcar? Its like the Old VIA Budd RDC Cars, but it is more modern and its alot faster.
I wouldn't mine riding the on the new line from Union to PIA. They should try using those Old Blue and Yellow Coaches again.
Should have left those old CN/VIA Turbotrains in service, then they wouldn't need the Jet Train.

Via Rail doesn't need more money. We (westerners) have to pay taxes to subsidize via rail canada! What do we get? Nothing. Via Rail is mainly an Eastern Railroad and should change its name to Via Rail Eastern Canada. Thank goodness, Martin had the guts to put an end this eastern unfair project.

There is a reason why VIA invests lots of money into the quebec windsor corridor and in montreal. VIA gets 90% of its business from here. Out west it would be a waste of money for VIA to put expensive rail equipment. That would run the corporation into the ground and then there would be no passenger rail service at all.

TORONTO -- Transport Minister David Collenette today announced that Union Pearson AirLink Group has been selected as the successful respondent to finance, design, construct, operate and maintain the air-rail link connecting Toronto's Lester B. Pearson International Airport and Union Station.
"This is an important step forward in taking Toronto's air-rail link project from concept to reality," said Mr. Collenette. "Residents of the Greater Toronto Area can now look forward to the day when this dynamic, new transportation service will supplement existing public transit options in the region."
The selection of Union Pearson AirLink Group is the result of a thorough and fair evaluation process, which included public and private sector evaluators such as representatives of Transport Canada, the Canadian Transportation Agency, the Railway Association of Canada, the City of Toronto, the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, Canadian National Railway, GO Transit, and Deloitte & Touche, who acted as advisors to Transport Canada on this project.

You also missed the point where when they realised that the third main line wasnt going to work ... they wanted to kick CP of their TO - Mon main except for midnight locals and have the all passenger trains on the line with no communities and no stations and have ALL the freight on the CN line where everything already is.
If that happened that would have been attrocious.
