Derailment one block from my house

This locomotive, CSX #8340, was part of a train that derailed on a small single rail street overpass Monday about one block from my house. It was the second of 3 locomotives, but the only one to slip off the tracks. Nothing serious came of it, and it was righted after several hours. But it was awfully spooky looking at that big thing, smack-dab in the middle of the bridge, leaning at about 20 degrees over towards the edge.

Out of all the places, it had to derail on an overpass. What are the chances of that? Well, I hope nobody got injured.

Train jumps the tracks in Midtown

Memphis firefighters are on the scene of a train derailment at South McLean Boulevard and York Avenue.

The fire department says three C-S-X engines jumped the tracks on an overpass at the intersection.

One of the engines is leaning on the railroad bridge over South McLean. Diesel fuel is leaking from the engines. EMA and the fire department's hazardous materials crew are trying to stabalize the leaking fuel.

Police are blocking streets in the area, fearing the engine might fall over.

The fire department says the train is not carrying any hazardous materials."

I didn't hear about the derailment until late that night.
