Winchester & Western GP38s come to VA
The original plan has changed-- GMTX 2182 and 2196 have now been moved to the Virginia Division from New Jersey. They plan on using these units on the Hagerstown train, which are exceeding 100 cars some days. 63 yesterday, they took the two GP9s accompanying the GP38s offline and let them do their thing with those 63 cars, and they looked and sounded great doing it!

GMTX GP38-2 2689 has now joined the roster on the WW VA Division. While the first two were rebuilt from ex IC GP40Rs, this one is an old PC/PRSL GP38 core with the extended cab front. The cab front was bumped out approximately one foot to accomodate a dual control stand setup, which has long since been removed.

The trio of GP38-2s are assigned to train 86 between Inwood, WV and Hagerstown, MD.

Mike, does that 86 train have a quasi-regular schedule or typical timing of operation?

Absolutely-- runs Sunday through Thursday from Inwood (Corning Road in Darkesville, WV) to NS Vardo Yard in Hagerstown and back. Call time is 0700, except for an 0900 call on Sundays.

On Sundays, you can usually find them in Hagerstown any time between 1100-1300 and coming back south early to mid afternoon. Weekdays a bit earlier. They can occasionally get hosed by NS congestion at Vardo, but if things go well, they are in and out of there in about an hour.

All times are GMT. The time now is 03:25 AM.
