Anywhere with mountains would work for me.

I'd like to visit Colorado. Many photos on this site from Colorado have made me want to head out there sometime.

Some of the places I want to railfan before I keel over:
-Northeast Corridor (again)
-UP between Ogden and Denver
-Canadian Rockies
-Power River Basin
-Trans-Syberian route (Russia)
-TGV lines in France and the Eurostar to England...you know what, Europe in general, so many trains...
-Maybe somewhere that has steam locomotives (ie not Washington)

The LA harbor. I live like two miles away from it but its illegal to take photographs there, and if I do, security shows up out of nowhere and tells me to leave. Not to stop taking pictures, but to the the harbor area itself. So yeah, LA harbor.

Very valid point! Im not sure that it is possible with the current situation there. I thought about leasing a helicopter and taking an aerial shot of Joliet Station with a Metra train stopped and uploading it to RP, like some folks did during the NS Steam Programs final years. Judging by the number of Metra/Joilet photos in the database, Id say that it is more significant than the NS Steam Program ever was! :lol:

Ive Been to Kentucky, at least its scenic. Concrete is not scenic, nor are overgrown weedy ditches trackside.

You see a much better variety of trains through Joliet, though. It's also one of the hotspots on www.frograil.com.

Probably true, but Im into scenery, as well as the train. I dont care for modern power either, NS still has alot of vintage high hood power around to shoot in scenic locations.

You got that right. Here in the redneck state we have a good variety of FREIGHT trains but no passenger trains.

I enjoy the NS high hoods also. BNSF also has their fair share of older power, too. You have to admit that it's always nice to see a Bluebonnet or a Cascade BN. It can never get tiring around Joliet.

Yea, but there is nothing like an old Southern or N&W high hood still earning its keep and at times in mainline service. The "best" modern power we get here is the occasional unpatched warbonnet. You guys should enjoy the steam that runs up around Chicago.....enjoy it while its running......ya never know when they will shut it down.

And yes, I will give you the 261 and QJ trips as real passenger trains. Amtrak is NOT a true passenger train.

Amen, brother. I'd much rather wait all day for that one scenic shot rather than see a constant parade. The CNO&TP gives me the best of both worlds, though. It's scenic and busy at the same time. Plus, there's that chance that a high hood might be leading something. Give me rural railroading ANY day.

They do, and it is nice to see those older engines every now and then. High hoods are a lot more rare, though. Besides, I saw a bunch of those high hoods when I was a wee lad.

I belive i said there is no more passenger trains running in the redneck state.If i can rember the last passenger train was amtrak 850/851.

I meant there are no more REAL passenger trains anywhere in the US anymore. With the exception of the occasional excursions behind steam or vintage power with Pullmans.
