Top shot
A blah shot of a SW1500 beating out the iconic 1983 NRHS triple decker shot at Richmond. What has this world come to?
|
The favorites always tell a truer story than views.

Neither one is near the top-viewed for the week.
Still, 5700 views and 35 faves for the Richmond is not bad at all! |

I find the Russians contributors overall excel in photography. It is hard to believe this photo is not screeners choice but maybe will show up a POTW. Sadly I missed it until showed up as Peoples Choice. This location is actually north of Sweden, December, does the sun even rise, what was the temp's. I'd guess train stopped for shot (composite and some good PS) unless someone else has insight? Bob [photoid=732856] |

When you see an image with mega-views and relatively few favorites, it is either an image in which you can't tell what you are seeing from the thumb or more likely and image heavily campaigned by the photographer using off-site links. In the case of the shot which started this thread, the image came from a photographer with a long history of forcing his way to To24 through a linking campaign. Based on the stream of submissions, there were others chasing the same train, some of whom actually got better angles IMHO, but their images didn't get the home page exposure, because the individual I am speaking of made sure of that. |

This shot, posted about three hours ago, will be TO24 at the top of the hour.
[photoid=735232] How many more drone wedgies from the Canadian border will be campaigned to the top before Admin stops the linking of this guy's images? |

I usually gloss over the diesel shots, but that one caught my eye as well. Really nice image. Agree on the oversize watermark. I was sort of surprised that it didn't get an SC. We haven't had a new one in a while. When you see one overlooked like that, you sometimes wonder if the photographer is in the doghouse. Interestingly, I had this shot get picked up by Fickr's "Explore" group last week: [photoid=735122] No idea how that works, but it got several thousand views and several hundred likes in 24 hrs. Here, it barely covered 600 views in 24 hrs and only 7 likes. Night shots don't typically do well here, unless of course they are linked on the outside. |

9,000+ views and only 38 favorites (one of them mine)??? Another case of linking offsite?
This is a really nice photo and it amazes me that only 37 members before me favored it. [photoid=733327] |

This shot is now one of the top shots of the week. What a joke!

If the shot did not have such an astounding view count, would you be trashing it like you are doing? |

That's quite a find and quite a resemblance there! [Confession! I made a copy of the station scene, but without a trace of the oiling dude. (Just for fun, of course)] |
Does RP pay for linking clicks? :D
Maybe we're all just missing the boat. Loyd L. |

I find the cropping a bit tight (too close to the right side, and not enough foregrond). Otherwise, it's a pretty standard elevated wedgie of a beautiful red locomotive pulling a train. :-) |
Currently 2791 views AND 31 Favorites:
[photoid=735602] This photo has not been campaigned (assuming by the current count) and is deserving of more views BUT the favorites speaks volumes. In a fair fight, I cant imagine a blah farm field in the flat lands out viewing these stormy mountainous views....... |

Yeah, and it was getting creamed by you-know-who view wise. There are 4 or 5 names on this site who will almost always get a TO24 when they post. Screeners Choice is another thing altogether. The Midwest is rarely chosen, probably because it is not pretty enough (unless there is some weather event going on). Many locations are multiple SC favorites. In fact some of the same train on the same day at the same location by the same photographer have won the SC award twice! I'll buy a round of drinks if I ever win one! LOL!

And then there is this. Actually I not so predisposed to pick on him but here what I see, the whole building scrunching down and tilted???, the grassy knoll well illuminated, the 7010 trucks have a weird look(might be how they are painted but still weird, the red CP gleaming and 4 Favs. As I mentioned I look for .5 to 1 pct of total views for Fav's, this is .001?? think I got that right, but only 4. I am kinda conventional but I don't think the whole depot was needed, a crop up, we don't need to see all that nice lawn, and reduce the exposure or the lighting to begin with.???????? I have tons of night shots, some just get rejected, others I write off on my own. Bob Also not in love with the latest SC, in my opinion not even close to the one I mentioned that did not get one, nice sky, nice light, oh yea and there is a train off in the corner. |
