Another ethanol plant closure
Just saw news the recently completed ethanol plant adjacent to RJ Corman's yard in Clearfield, PA has now closed. An almost identical situation to the recent closure of Clean Burn Fuels on the A&R in North Carolina. Future does not look good for these small plants located outside of the traditional "corn states."

Fortunately, coal traffic on the RJCP has been pretty strong, but this plant would have been a nice source of diversified traffic.

The plant in Medina NY will either be closed or rebuilt (for new grass ethanol). Annoying how the government jumps from idiotic idea to idiotic idea, isn't it??? :-(

It gets kind of scary when you look at it-- they've gone and put these mandates for percentages of ethanol per gallon of gasoline, yet so many producers are closing up shop. Basic theory of supply and demand will tell you the price of ethanol will be heading up. But our dependance on foreign oil will be reduced, right???

Corn Ethanol is a joke and a lot of venture capital money and government subsidy money has been wasted constructing these plants. Lots of hope wasted on what is an unsustainable pipe dream and net energy loser of a product. We need to be looking at other things like sugar cane and beet ethanol.
