Just interested in preferences
Hi, i was wondering and would be intersted in finding out everyones preference or favourite locos and colour schemes. My favourite locos are U.S. switchers and Alco units.My favourite colour schemes are Alaska RR,Union Pacific,The old Rio Grande [black orange] and especially the red-silver Santa Fe.

Favorite locomotives and paint are UP Centennials (DD40X), UP SW10's, and UP wide cab SD70's with "wings". Anything UP is awesome really. I like CP's newer paint as well.

Then and now:
[photoid=213602] Now: [photoid=223013] I just can't beat the 80's, love 'em even though, like the 2nd favorited, they get painted. Seemingly gaining an interest to me everytime I encounter it: [photoid=250393] |
Favorite paint scheme counting them down like Casey Kasem
5.) [photoid=125586] 4.) [photoid=251353] 3.) [photoid=] No photo on RP of L&C's two tone blue and grey that their SW900s wore from 1965 to 1982. 2.) [photoid=54086] 1.) [photoid=219803] Note that with the exception of the red and silver, none of these appeared on a damn wide nose. You guys can keep your GEVOs and MACs.... give me all the Dash 7s still around and I'll bein heaven! And, remember, keep your feet on the ballast and keep reaching for the stars. |

GEVO's just another name for catfish :twisted:
Joe, you may not find a MAC appealing, but I still to this day don't want to believe that Chessie is one of the parents of CSX. |
This is a great shot of an old N.S.W. Alco that has been restored to original as delivered condition.I like the old paint scheme as well.

My favorite diesel locomotives are the B and A class bulldogs introduced to service in Victoria, Australia in the 1950s (as well as the S class).
[photoid=225012] [photoid=239735] If I can include a railcar into this, the unique 2000 class railcars in South Australia are a favorite too. Although I am cheating as these are not locomotives, they have around 1000hp per power car, which is more than most branchline locos would have. [photoid=236305] Quote:
[photoid=120774] As for my personal opinion on the 44 class, as grungy as they may seem, I like the look of the units used by Independant Rail for the Minto to Port Botany container shuttle trains. The 'Semi Retired Foamer' blog has some shots of them at this link: http://alcogoodwin.blogspot.com/2008...mber-12th.html |
I like that black and white shot of the VR livery you've taken, Oscar, it makes the Locomotive look quite striking.
However, I have to disagree with you on account of the 2000 Class 'Jumbo' Rail Cars. The new yellow TA livery is much nicer, even though it shows the dirt much more. I like the new QRNational livery, but only on single-ended Locomotives. [photoid=203115] ... and the Pacific National 'Stars' livery ... [photoid=86359] [photoid=203780] |

Although I said that I like the Jumbo Railcars, I never said anything about the red livery, I much prefer the Adelaide Metro Livery on these units, but the red livery on these does not look as bad as it formerly did on the 3000/3100 class. |
Blah.... Wide cab wise AC6000's, Dash-9's(wacky huh?), I like the way GEVO's rattle my windows when they go by in Notch 8. Any Standard cab GE. EMD wise I guess the SD70M-2 has kind of grew on me(kind of..), pre YN3 70MAC's, ex con SD60I's.
As for paint schemes, I guess YN3 as long as its clean, and not pink ish(hence my above comment). Unibrows and War Bonnets. |
[photoid=250338]
[photoid=244934] [photoid=241809] BN's nice too... so is Red/Silver ATSF... |
This is the post in which I'd make an ascii multimark out of the word 'multimark' if I had a spare, like, hour.
Instead, I think I'll just leave this here. [photoid=246543] |
Favorite older locomotive: Alco C425
[photoid=248329] Favorite newer locomotive: EMD SD70MAC [photoid=242290] Favorite Paint: D&M "Century" [photoid=248521] |

Big multimark, or smallmultimark? I think the big multimark with full "face stripes" across the cab and nose was pretty awesome. B&M Maroon and Gold, ATSF (not BNSF) Warbonnet, and MEC Harvest Gold were some of my favorites. |
ANY multimark =D
Big multi with candy stripes is awesome to the extreme. |
My favorite paint schemes would have to be the New York Central lightning stripes, any Conrail paint scheme (especially the one from the SD80MACs), the SP Daylight scheme, and ATSF warbonnets, in pretty much that order.
Favorite locomottives: NYC J3 Hudsons, Conrail SD80MACs, and SP GS class 4-8-4 steam engines (like #4449). The Hudsons would have to be my favorite, but they are all really close. |

Double bonus points. |
Triple points because I was there less than an hour ago =D

Paintschemes: CN Zebra stripes. CN Gray/Maroon with the script lettering. CP Action Red, small multimark with nose stripes only. CP Action Red without the multimark. NYS&W yellow/Black. Guilford Charcoal/Orange. BCR - Either version of green. Northern Alberta Railways. GN Big Sky Blue. MRL. DME. Soo Line White/Red. Probably more, just can't think of anymore. |
