Too Dark, But is there any hope?
 

It was evening and the lighting was a bit sub par. The shot was too cool to pass up. Is there any fix? Black & white maybe?

It is a cool shot. Needs a little cropping though to get the train more along the Rule of Thirds. Lightening may help or it could bring out some grain or noise issues. If you convert to black and white, the poor lighting, however, will still be there. It'll just be dark in B&W.

My take. I cropped, did levels, increased saturation, and some sharpening.

Not sure if it compressed or what, but the quality seems quite poor. Other then that, I love it! Dennis' version looks great.

Of course I was working from a web sized jpeg so the look would be compromised in any event.

Still, I would have to agree that the image seems to suffer image quality issues.
