Is my Canon f4L 70 to 200 mm dead?

It has stopped focusing. Period. Even in manual, although every once in a while, it seems to work. Is this worth sending in for repair? I was told today that the least it would cost is 150 bucks plus S&H. Any ideas?

Did you clean the contacts?

And I would send it in anyway, just for an estimate. You can always turn down the repair if you feel the cost is too high.

Joe I started a thread for you over on Fred Miranda. They should be able to help you out, so take a look. It already has one reply.

If the funds are available, it certainly would seem worth it to me. The lens is worth $450-$500 if you can get it working again.

Most repair estimate's are Quotes now, one price to fix it as the cost of doing a estimate is about the same for them to fix it.

If you can get it back in working order for $150, I'd say that's a better deal than having to replace it for $500 . . .

Joe,
I absolutely agree with the folk here, get a quote for repair. You have nothing to lose doing this, except for shipping the lens to Canon for an eval. I shoot Nikon but, I know that Canon has better customer support and turn around time on repairs. Jump in both feet Joe with atleast an estimate.

I am with the rest of the gang. $150 sure beats $600.
