WOW omg rp what have you done!? i can only upload one photo now because i tried to upload a perfectly good one sitting there! Man I thought you wanted train enthusiasts to upload the BEST photos on there. All i was trying to do was become part of this because i have already made videos of trains on youtube.. but i cant take photos and put them on rp? I asked this Nikon D3000 for a christmas gift from my parents so i could use it to take photos and put them on rp.. but NO! i cant you know why? because you wont accept my photos that look just as good as the others on the website.


OMG rp! Im just a new photographer trying to become part of this because i love trains. YOU JUST LOVE TO CUT DOWN UPLOAD LIMITS DO YOU!? :lol:

Who said i was typing like a 15 year old girl. Chris I dont have time for this I'm already pissed off as is. A 17 year old made fun of my youtube channel about trains. My photo was in a yard and it was an overcast day thats it!

RP did not force your parents to buy your camera gear for you. Not to be harsh but, keep posting your rejections here and most folk will help you become a better photographer and you will learn your equipment better as you progress. Just remember that EVERYONE's photos including the screeners AND the owners of RP (Admins) must have their photos screened the same way as everyone elses.

2. Nobody cares how much your parents spent on your camera.

3. It's entirely possible to take shoddy photos with good equipment.

4. We were all n00bs once, and I can assure you that nobody hates you for it.

5. Post your stuff and get some feedback. The forum is willing to help you, but if you're more eager to whine than you are to learn, nothing worthwhile will come out of this for anyone.

Your photo that you tried to get on does not look as good as ANY photo on this site. Sorry, but you need to take a chill pill. If you seriously want help to become a better shooter, this is the place for you. If you want to throw a temper tantrum, go get a babysitter.

Personally, I don't think you type like a 15 year old. More like a ten year old.

Since you are so young I will reserve some words that I feel would NORMALLY be fitting here but, lets see the rejects in question and be prepared for some constructive criticism.

Alright! :) one of my rejects was in my other topic "Will rp accept... this?"

Take a deep breath... and here's some advice...

1) Nothing written here is an absolute rule, but they will all help if you follow them. Follow them first, before you start to break them.

2) Capture the entire train in the frame, or have something else within the frame cut the train off.

3) Shoot on sunny days, not overcast days.

4) Shoot with the sun at your back, so that your shadow is pointing at the train.

5) Follow the rule of 1/3rds. You don't want the subject of your photograph in the center of your shot. This makes all the rest of your shot meaningless. Think about the entire frame and what the eye is going to see.

6) Make sure the train is in focus. Use a shutter speed that is fast enough to stop it. Make sure that the lens has focused on it.

The image here is not doing any of these things. Hope this helps.

I simply don't feel like typing a long message, as simply I don't find it worth it. So, I'll go with a simple, yet effective reply.

The photo sucked. It's blurry, overexposed, and bluntly, suffers from poor image quality.

I'm 15 and am acting 10x more mature than you. You should work on that.

This image is poorly composed - the subject is smack in the center of the frame. Look up the "rule of thirds."

The image is excessively noisy, use a lower ISO setting.

The image is soft, use "Unsharp Mask."

The light is drab and boring... not well suited for a shot like this.

Even if those issues were resolved, it'd still be a fairly boring image. There's no "sense of place," nothing of real visual interest... it seem pointless.

Luckily for you, we all started out taking pointless and poorly executed photos. You'll get better, but it'll take a good amount of patience.

Here are some images of the same subject that have pleasant light and are thoughtfully composed. Eventually you should be able to capture images that are just as interesting as these:

Ok the hard part, don't be in a hurry. You will get better and look at your shots as not good or great but something to start with. Your shot that got the boot haves a lot that needs work or reshot. Why don't you tell us what's not right, that's a start and seeing what you can do better next time.

Ok I went to Willowbrook Yard today and took some shots. This time its sunny today. What does anyone think of this one? Will it make it to rp?

P.S. i might have to crop it a little i guess? 8)

The quality is definitely better but do you have any other versions of the shot? You have way to much dead space on the right.

I'm 13 and I'm down to two. Just don't flood the screeners database with stuff unless you really think it will get in! Keep asking around here too! I find it very helpful and I'm sure you will too!

Ive noticted you usually stand right above the center of the tracks, not the best angle in my opinion.

Your first image has no nose light and has dead space on the left and right, I would have went vertical on this. It also has no noselight.

The second image has dead space on the right, that dirt road does nothing for the image.

chase does take awesome shots, i'm 16 and i can't do that but then again i lack creativity and thats my main issue, that and clouds. As for you gotransitf59ph all i can say is dont be in a rush, i only have 4 shots in the database and thats of maybe 30-40 uploads. You can learn from the rejections, and post them on the forum i've learned alot from the forum and lot of things i thought i was doing right were wrong, so take everyones advice. That is how i have learned.

As other people have said, dont shoot on cloudy days as they're almost always rejected unless the bad weather is used creativly. Keep the sun behind you and always have lights on the train, yes there is plenty of shots with odd lighting but that takes practice. Start simple, if all you can manage is the simple wedge shot go for it. Look at what is accepted and slowly you'll learn how to become more creative.

Right. It's a good way to learn how to be selective. Whoever made that comment some time back about how the admins should make 1 or 2 per 24 hours the default for all new members, then it they have a decent batting average of getting images accepted, it eventually be increased to perhaps 5 or 6 had a very legit point that I found effective.

10 a day with people who know absolutely nothing about photography is a guaranteed upload reduction, atleast in my opinion.

Chill, slow down, This will take time. How much time? Depends on how fast you start looking and working a shot and figure out what going to work for you. Some have talent some more than others. You have to have light a train and something worth a shot to. Look at your background, Is it clean and uncluttered? Foreground, Sight lines, Shadows that may fall on the train? Is it a safe spot to stand? Think, look and shoot.
