Popular Mechanics January 2006
Has anyone seen the January 2006 Issue? They outline a new hybrid Engine that GE is working on, they are planning on capturing the electricity that is produced from the dynamic braking of the Locomotives.. they have an awsome picture of the GE plant in Erie PA.
The article starts by talking about The "Evolution" being a more fuel efficient 12 cylinder Engine as apposed to the 16 Cylinder engine producing the same amount of power. And it's supposed to use 200,000 fewer gallons of fuel over the lifetime of the engine..

Anyone seen this article yet?

Yep, it's a pretty good piece - covers much more than just locomotive technology. Their website is already advertising the February issue so you'll have to look for this on the news stand.

I saw that article in the copy at the newstand today. Pretty interesting stuff on the future of locomotive power. Im sure the fuel savings will catch the attention of many a number cruncher at the Class I's.
