LOL I don't think I have actually seen someone stopped behind the crossing gates like that before.

John Fladung 07-05-2009 05:22 AM

They stopped I guess...wrong side of the gate though! LOL

I wonder if they had the "deer in the headlights look" going at all.

CP990 07-05-2009 01:55 PM

Drivers ed maybe? lol "Bring your own underwear"

That truck is actually stopped back about as far as some gates where the tracks cross the road straight. Still a moron, I guess.

khalucha 07-05-2009 05:52 PM

On a positive note, at least they stopped!

L&A Conductor 07-05-2009 06:05 PM

That truck was across the tracks until he saw us coming. He backed up as far as he could and everybody held on tight just in case. I guess the signs "No Stopping On Tracks" are not big enough? I hope Murphy doesn't come down here and do some railfaning one day. That make 3 I've seen like this in 2 trips. I'm going on another trip in an hour, we'll see.

Dave.

They have to stop ......... there's traffic lights on the other side of the crossing, about 3 car lengths, with nowhere to go if the gates come down.

khalucha 07-05-2009 10:16 PM

In your first pictures, it looks like there is a "county mounty" sitting there in the parking lot. Surprised they did not do anything.

Yup you're right. It looks like an Ohio State Patrol car.

I dont think most police departments really enforce this kind of stuff. Do you know how many cops I have seen stopped on the RR tracks at stop lights? Or how often you see a random person walking down the tracks right past a police car with out the police saying any thing to them? Then again this may be because I am in a small town with a 1-3 train a week railroad.

Guess it all depends on where you are. The town I work in as a Firefighter and Police dispatcher is another town that sees about 6-10 trains a week. Yet, I do know they do enforce the track blockage when it is seen.

In all fairness, the pictures in the OP do depict a couple awkward train crossings.
