It would've been a great photo if it wasn't for the lighting.

Actually, I think that's a great photo, the lighting really sets the mood there. It's just another example that there doesn't have to be direct sun, or blue skies to compose a nice shot.

Great work Dan.

I think it's a great shot myself. It might not be exactly what RP is looking for, but a greatshot nonetheless. One thing, I might play around brightness and contrast. The shot looks just a tad "flat" and maybe a little too dark. Just my opinion, so take it..... uhm...... FWIW, LOL.

But nonetheless, I like it a lot.

I personally like the shot and would suggest (as Joe did) that you adjust the contrast/brightness. We are always interested in publishing "out-of-the-box" shots like this in our attempt to stray away from the ever too common wedgie shot.

I like the mood, color and clouds. That had to be yesterday afternoon-I was up in Cove and the light went duff at 2:30-3:00.

How much traffic is on the Lurgan branch-I'd like to check it out sometime but I don't know the area.

Traffic is directional. In the mornings, you get 15T leading 11R, 227 and 211 ending the parade at about 10am. 203 comes south at about 2pm Tu-Su, and 37Q follows.

NS 213 usually meets 214 somewhere south of Shippensburg in the 10pm neighborhood.

As for the shot, if I toyed around with any of the settings (contrast or brightness), I' lose detail in the sky...which is a major component.

Thanks-that sked is a big help if I get down there... I hear you about the sky-that's why I'd like to see them 'loosen up' a little on cloudy shots.

Dan, this is an excellent photograph and a very, very good rail picture. Hope you're able to get it in the database.

Maybe try cropping it a little more like this. I also brightened it up a tad bit. Mind you I'm no expert at this. Just a suggestion.

Lightened, more saturation, just a little contrast.

brunswickrailfan 11-15-2005 02:41 PM

But now the engine has lost all detail...it looks grainy and obviously PS'd.

Thanks though. :)

Remember that I am working with the web copy, not your camera original. When I save it as a jpg to put it back on the web, it gets compressed again and is even worse. You will have to try the same things, only on the original image.
