Opinions on PEQ?
What do you guys think of this image? It was nabbed for PEQ several months ago, but after stumbling upon it on the hard drive, I wanted to see your opinions and see if it possibly stands a chance of being accepted, or at least making small adjustments in attempt to get the image accepted, for future reference.

Nice picture. The only problem is that the train passing in the distance seems like an afterthought. Do you have a wider shot where the lights are more prominent?

Thats a car I think.

While I think the shot is neat from an artistic standpoint, and I love the colors, I'm not so sure how much it has to recommend itself to RP. From a railroad standpoint, I think the fact that the track is barely part of the picture and disappears into the corner of the photo while the signal pole is cut off don't help it. Since the streak isn't obviously (if at all) train related, I'm not sure how much it adds to the RP-worthiness of the photo. Finally, the severe wide-angle distortion doesn't help, especially in terms of the impact it has on the railroad related elements of the photo.

Very cool photograph, but in my mind, not a railroad photo (even with the signal taking such a prominent roll on it).

Nice creative shot, good use of the ultrawide. I think you aimed to high, too much sky, land stuff too tight at the bottom, too narrow, and signal pole cut too short. Feels unbalanced to me.

What everyone else said. But, if the train was closer.... PCA!!!

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I think I had an interesting sky, but couldn't find a good way to include a decent railroad scene. I wish the signal would've been facing me, but you take what you can get!

Unfortunately, that was not a train, but instead, a car, as Travis mentioned.

I may try something similar in the future, but attempt to include an EOT trail.

Thanks again!

if you wanna give it a shot, my one suggestion is to darken it, a lot. Right now everything on the ground is well lit - but there's nothing there to see. If you darken it and crop it a bit tighter, now there's only one focus, the great cloud movement in the sky (very dramatic, moving in the correct direction, nice job). Not saying it will get in, but see what you think.

Certainly a nice editing job, Nick! Thanks! I like it.

I'll give it one more chance on RP, just to see what'll happen. While I think the editing improves the image, I'm still uncertain if it has enough of a "railroady" feel to it.

Nonetheless, regardless if it makes RP, I'll certainly keep it for PBase!

Reminds me of...

(Cool shot, even without a train, it seems lowering or shooting wider would allow better inclusion of the tracks).

I think Mitch might be onto something. I tried Nick's version and to my surprise, was rejected, but not for PEQ. It was nabbed for underexposed and bad cropping.

Any suggestions on the cropping?
